Readers Theatre Digest

23Jan/100

Welcome from the Editor!

Welcome to the new Readers Theatre Digest home page.  The Readers Theatre Digest will publish juried articles written to discuss or inform about work in the Readers Theatre genre.  The first series of articles will be published October 1st of this year.  We are soliciting materials on the Elementary, Middle, High School and College levels which deal with production of Readers Theatre or intensive study of the uses of readers theatre.  The RT Digest will publish summer, fall, winter and spring editions. In the past we have published 17 editions of the digest, all of them archived for your perusal.

The Readers Theatre Digest is affiliated with the Readers Theatre Institute which offers workshops and in-service demonstrations of Readers Theatre techniques. The Institute was founded by William J. Adams, Ph.D. from Stanford University, in 1974.  The Institute meets in various parts of the world to conduct workshops and to keep up with the field internationally. With the death of Dr. Adams the Institute has continued under Walter R. Stump, Ph.D., Director of the Institute; Lucy Rioux, M.Ed., Associate Director Classroom Studies; and Arlene McCoy, M.Ed., Associate Director Workshop/General Manager.

The digest is an on-line gathering of RT students and practitioners designed to discuss ideas and methodologies in the teaching of the discipline.  Further, papers selected from the digest will be read at the annual Institute for Readers Theatre conference which will be held in London in 2011.

Articles concerning the teaching of K-12 should be submitted to Lucille Rioux at lucyrioux@gmail.com.  Articles concerning intercollegiate and methodologies should be submitted to Walter R. Stump, wstump2@comcast.net . The deadline for the October 1st issue is September 12, 2010.  I’m confident the Digest will be a major source for research in the field and for general information.

Walter R. Stump PhD.

Co-Editor, Readers Theatre Digest
